Community Garden Info and Sign-Up Sheet

This information and sign-up sheet was developed by a member of the Community Garden exploratory committee and provides good information regarding this project.
Community_Garden_Info_and_Sign_Up.pdf

If you are interested in gardening in full sunshine with other nice people, come to the next Community Gardening meeting at the Dry Creek Grange on Feb 3, 2009 at 7pm in the basement of the Grange.  You do not have to have gardening experience, just the desire to grow your own vegetables and meet a group of people with like interests.  Please register on this site and make your comments directly on this web site.  This will reduce telephone tag, snail mail and other archaic communications methods, plus it is easier.

Dry Creek Grange Community Garden

A committee of Dry Creek Grange and Port Angeles area residents is exploring establishment of a Community Garden under the sponsorship of the Dry Creek Grange

A presentation Community_Garden_Info_Sheet.pdf was made at the regular Dry Creek Grange meeting on Jan 8, 2009 recommending that the Grange sponsor a Community Garden (Pea Patch) in the vicinity of the Grange.  Grange members approved exploration of this concept.

Port Angeles urban residents and Dry Creek Grange members met on Jan 22, 2009 in the Grange basement to discuss various aspects of establishing a Community Garden.
The following general guidelines were discussed and adopted for further study:

The Community Garden must have full sunshine morning to evening
The Garden must be located on or very near Clallam Transit bus line(s)
The Garden must have water availability for drip irrigation of garden plots
The Garden would be solely Organic to reduce frictional issues with various gardeners in farming their plots of soil
The Garden should be in the vicinity of the Dry Creek Grange to allow use of Grange facilities for education and training on a year-round basis
Garden members would be members of the Grange regardless of whether they live in rural or urban areas
Garden plot sizes and fees would be determined when a garden plan is formalized
Local farmers would assist Community Gardeners in marketing their excess produce at a Farmer’s Market or other venue of their choice

The next meeting is scheduled for Feb 3, 2009 at the Dry Creek Grange basement at 7pm, any interested persons are invited to attend.

We will attempt to get a “lessons learned” from Pam Larson who is a primary spearhead of the Sequim Community Garden project
